Virgil CLI · open beta

Virgil saves tokens with a library.

A coding agent for your terminal. Before it calls the model, it checks what it already solved.

Every coding agent today sends every task to the model. First time, tenth time, same price. Virgil keeps four local libraries: debug, code, design and speech. Before every task it checks them first.

Knows the answer0 API calls
Knows the pattern1 call
Something newfull chain, then stored

The more you use it, the cheaper it gets. Blocks that prove themselves in three or more projects are shared, so new users start with them.

Model calls first time vs. next time: 65 to 14 on 55 real bugs, 8 to 0 repairing the same file, 1 to 0 building a clock, 0.02 to 0 cents for small talk
Measured October 2026 on our own runs. Transfer to other people's codebases is not measured yet.

Test it yourself in 30 seconds

  1. Start it in any folder:
$npx virgil-cliclick to copy
  1. Ask for something small, like build me a stopwatch with pause and resume
  2. Open a different folder and ask for the same thing again.
  3. Watch the call counter drop to zero.

What it costs

No account, no card. You start with 15 free credits. On our hosted DeepSeek backend, 1 credit is 1 cent and you pay only for what you use. Or bring your own OpenAI-compatible key: it stays in your system keychain, two days free, then 5 € a month for the shared library.

Mac, Linux and Windows. Node 18 or newer.

Honest limits: the router still matches by words, so a new requirement phrased with old words can pick the wrong block. And we haven't measured yet how well it transfers to other people's projects. That's what the beta is for.

Built by a former hotel chef on an old MacBook Air. Tell me where it breaks.
